BS 8007 is a British Standard that provides recommendations for the design and construction of normal reinforced and prestressed concrete structures used for the containment or exclusion of aqueous liquids. The term "liquid" in this code of practice includes any contained or excluded aqueous liquids but excludes aggressive liquids. The standard was published in 1987 and covers the following aspects:
General principles and objectives of design
Structural design, loads, analysis, site conditions, cracking, design life and serviceability
Design and detailing of reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures
Design, detailing and workmanship of joints
Concrete specification and materials
Specification and workmanship of reinforcement and prestressing tendons
Inspection and testing of the structure
The standard is intended to be used by engineers, architects, contractors and other professionals involved in the design and construction of concrete structures for retaining aqueous liquids. It is also useful for students, researchers and academics who want to learn more about the subject. The standard is compatible with other relevant British Standards, such as BS 8110 for structural use of concrete, BS 4449 for steel for the reinforcement of concrete, BS 5896 for high tensile steel wire and strand for the prestressing of concrete, and BS 8118 for structural use of aluminium.
